I have been a business owner for 12 years and I owe much of my business development to networking. My children were 2 and 5 when I started my company, so I understand how hard it is to get out there when you have other things to do. I had absolutely no background in sales and discovered networking by chance. Despite being outgoing, and a talker, it is still hard sometimes to get up the energy to walk into a room of strangers and start a conversation. I have some tricks, and I bet others do too.
My firm helps organizations build strong relationships with visitors, members, students and donors. Through my work, activity and leadership in all kinds of groups, I have come to understand that active people are the ones who stay, do the work and bring their friends to groups. The goal of this blog is to help people feel more comfortable getting involved and help organization leaders create an environment that encourages participation.
Beth,

Hi Beth- Your blog is really great. I was wondering if I could quote you and put a link to your article on our association blog. I really like your point about “fishing where there are the most fish”!
Thanks,
